The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) is responsible for technical specifications, evaluations & recommendations for the university networks.
This covers all network services (e.g., IP/MPLS, VoIP, video, wireless, IPTV, F&C security, outside plant/inside plant) & includes system design, configuration, troubleshooting, implementation, security & resource monitoring to support the university's business plan & mission.
The SNE is challenged with the successful operations & maintenance of the university's voice, data & video communications networks at all times. The importance of providing secure, reliable & sufficient network resources to the university's research & support staff & the residential community cannot be overstated.
Bachelors degree holder in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
Minimum of 6 + years professional experience, of which at least 5 should have been spent in networking.
Minimum CCNP & CCIP certified (Must) & have proven professional experience in most of the following areas:
Network management (SNMP, Syslog, Netflow, NCM, solarwinds, Ciscoworks etc.)
Packet capture & analysis
System administration (Windows & SQL server)
Virtualization environment administration (VMware ESX)
Network design, implementation & documentation
Bluecoat proxy SG administration
Load balancer administration (preferably F5)
Required Certifications / Credentials
Must : CCIE (Routing & Switching) CCIE Written & Lab Certified (kindly provide also the valid CCIE certification Number)
Preferred Certifications / Credentials
F5 LTM certification
Assists IT management in designing, building & efficiently operating the universitys voice, data, wireless & video networks, spanning data centres, Exchange Bldg, local / national / international & value-added components where applicable.
Analyzes, evaluates & recommends technical requirements & Specifications for the seamless integration of university-wide networking Resources.
Supports planning/installation of networking equipment, systems & services.
Coordinates the efforts of assigned personnel as required by the scope of work.
Prepares layouts, configurations & bills of materials as a normal part of project assignments.
Improves customer satisfaction in reliability, availability & cost of network services.
Participates in selected aspects of user consulting, system analysis, general systems design, vendor contracts & detailed systems designs.
Reviews work for compliance with established guidelines of best practice Industrial / enterprise standards &/or national & international standards organizations.
Delivers the appropriate level of documentation to support recommendations.
Meets with management as required & provides status reports as required.
Recommends changes in hardware, software & network configurations to maintain / improve delivery of service.
Provides input to management for design changes or improved operations of campus IP backbone.
Primary interface with vendors to resolve telecommunications/network system-related problems.
Participates with vendors to assess network services, including beta or proof-of-concept tests.
Schedules & prioritizes work to accommodate IT & customer needs while minimizing impact on current projects & network operations.
Informs management of potential network architecture / design problems before they occur & communicates solutions.
Escalates risks, issues & recommended resolution/remediation to the Lead Network Engineer.
Briefs Lead or Department Manager on project issues & status as required.
Implements network design best practices
Assists in educating IT staff dealing with end-users on how to best use telecommunications services.
Works closely with other IT groups to resolve problems & implement changes or new services.
