Organize and manage the activities/workflow in the Lab
Manage network and server capacity and configurations.
Monitor outputs and keep records of workflow and usage of supplies
Supervise the ordering, delivery, and appropriate testing of new hardware and supplies
Ensure equipment is tested, calibrated, and labeled where required to ensure accurate records and device sanity
Perform quality tests and ensure the company meets it quality assurance standards
Oversee internal service delivery to company stakeholders
Adhere to and monitor the change control process
Maintain lab documentation (such as lab descriptions, diagrams, and processes).
Maintain physical security and periodic backups
Manage the Lab budget
Ensure Labs and work-areas are clean, safe, and within environmental constraints
Implement a preventative maintenance program for equipment
Establish an approval process for removing any equipment
Promote the continuing professional development of staff and oversee the training of trainees
Make risk assessments for the Lab and ensure that company policy is observed
Provide support and motivate staff as a servant leader
Offer cover for other staff when required
Evaluate and assess new equipment.
Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent plus 8-12 years IT experience required
Previous experience leading a technical team in a management position
Knowledge of equipment and processes used in a datacenter environment that relies on various automation technologies
Experience with operational metrics, maintaining accurate records, and compiling schedules and reports
Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Bash, TCL, Perl)
Experience with FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, or UNIX like operating systems
Experience with Firewall and Sniffer technologies (e.g. ipfw, tcpdump, snoop)
Experience working in a geographically diverse data centre operation
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
First class planning and time-management skills
Active listener with the ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
Calm and level headed, and be able to make rational decisions in time sensitive situations
Positive, pro-active attitude
Business process analysis and design
Data modeling, detailed technical design
Project planning, scheduling, management
Technical background with an understanding of networking, Brocade and Cisco switches, specifically IP related technologies would be considered an asset.
Networking certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) would be considered an asset
Experience with open source monitoring tools such as MRTG and Nagios.
