Job Description

JOB PURPOSE/CORE FUNCTIONS

Managing a large accounting and reporting function, the Financial Controller will ensure robust and reliable controls across the verticals.
He will need to produce meaningful and insightful reporting that is both appropriate for the business and that it is delivered in an accurate and timely manner.
The role takes direct responsibility for Group's ledgers, all aspects of management reporting from individual business unit to ensure completion of statutory accounts and managing liaison with external auditors


OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Preparation of accounts

Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions.
Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departments and Business units
Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management
Responsibility for all journals and final GL balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Groups accounting records and financial systems
Production of statutory accounts for the Group and its various subsidiary companies as and when required in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and the legislation of the countries in which they operate
Play a full part in providing relevant & timely financial information to the Board to enable a balanced and objective assessment of the Groups strategy and objectives
Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.
Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses.
Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts

Budgets and forecasts

P reparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring & review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Board and third party stakeholders

Finance & Banking

Prudent Finance management for the group with proper accounting and systematic reporting of activities and its analysis, being strong in all Commercial and Financial aspects.
Negotiate best financing deals with Banks and Financial Institutions for competitive rates and charges for working capital as well as public issues and fund raising through IPO.
Negotiate best suppliers packages for all inputs at best rates and terms for the group business.


Financial management & controls

Effectively manage the working capital components of the Group with specific attention to stock, debtors and cash balances
Active management of overheads whilst seeking out areas for efficiencies for savings
Overseeing monthly processing of payroll and payments to employees
Review and update, in line with good practice, the Groups internal control environment and produce a Controls and Procedures manual for review and adoption by management
To assist MD in respect of periodic reports to the Groups Audit Committee explaining the processes adopted and undertaken by management to keep under regular review the effectiveness of internal controls covering financial, operational & compliance controls
Play an active role in assisting management in the risk assessment process and embedding a risk management culture throughout the organization
Oversee financial management of foreign operations to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures.
Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.


Taxation

Support MD in the development and execution of the Groups taxation strategy
Ensure returns for Corporation tax, VAT and other relevant taxes are submitted, payments made on time and all relevant regulations are complied with

Information technology

To take a lead role in the implementation of the upgraded Tally/ERP accounting system
Working closely with IT to ensure users have access to the key components of the accounting system, receive adequate training and have the essential reports readily available to facilitate decision making and problem solving

Staff

Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
Oversee daily operations of the finance department.
Effectively manage, motivate and develop the Finance dept
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.
Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff.
Implementation of a change management culture by challenging & replacing established processes and procedures where necessary
Give direction and leadership towards the achievement of each divisions strategy and its annual goals and objectives
Liaise with different departments to ensure the Finance dept is properly supporting the needs of the operating businesses


HR support

Have sufficient exposure to various HR activities within the organisation to include :-
Take part in projects related to employment costs or any other appropriate project if requested
Strengthen the payout calculations and the employment costs accounting processes
Review and validate pay-out calculations performed locally by each Business unit
Calculate the monthly deferrals accruals to be booked in each

BU

E nsure consistent mapping of employment costs from Payroll into Management Accounts

Commercial

Have sufficient exposure to various commercial activities within the organisation to include :-Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions.
Provide Strategic Guidance to management with respect to contractual business Obligations
Participate in high value purchase committee and provide necessary input for management decision
Provide in depth business cost analysis and modeling
Ensure productive and cost effective Contracts with Vendors
Implement timely Contractual obligations
Identify and develop prospective local vendors
Provide cost measures and monitor the same against the cost budgets.

Legal

Have sufficient exposure to various Legal activities within the organisation to include :- Manage Board and Shareholder relationships and perform all secretarial and administrative duties of the organizations

Board of Directors

Draft minutes of the Board meetings, committee meetings and general meetings, prepare background notes, attend meetings and co-ordinate with all the departments for the agenda to be discussed at the Board meeting
Co-ordinate for compliance of all Secretarial matters within the scheduled time.
Provide advisory services on issues that relate to the legal and regulatory framework and liaise with relevant regulatory bodies as required
Manage relationships with external solicitors and ensure compliance with agreed service levels
Draft, negotiate, administer, interpret and advise on agreements (between OpCos and their customers, and between OpCos and their suppliers) letters, forms, and other legal documents related to OpCos and the Group as required.
Vet documents held under seal and maintain proper custody of the organizations seal
Provide overall guidance, leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the legal departments functions and activities
Keep abreast of best practices, changes in regulation, amendment of enabling laws and proactively advise the business accordingly
Updating and maintenance of Statutory Records as per Company Act.

General

Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop five year business plans for the company.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, brokers, bankers and other parties as directed by the MD/management
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
Keep key stakeholders up to date on progress against key milestones
Ensure management is kept informed of industry developments which are relevant to the operation of an efficient finance function
Carry out any further tasks for which your qualifications and experience are suited as directed by the Company
Represent the company externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, and the general public

Candidate Profile:

Must have 10 - 12 years of experience post qualification
Must be willing to work in NIGERIA
Must be from manufacturing background
Experience in Nigeria or other African countries would be added advantage
