Job Description

Preferred Skills:
The AEG Engineering Manager will oversee the portfolio of products that he/she is responsible for and also ensuring their timely delivery while maintaining high quality. This role will manage a team of Developer and Tester. This role involves influencing and evaluation of cutting edge technologies, building scalable, robust and configurable products and balances these with playing a product evangelist role with the other technology teams at MetricStream.
Mandatory Skills
Exposure to complete product development cycles -- From inception to production to scaling up, supporting new requirements, re-architectures - the Engineering Manager should have seen it all and ideally in multiple cycles. Should have been part of scalable product development cycles with large data handling exposure for 5+ years.
Excellent Mentoring skills -- Be the technical & career mentor for the team. Should have done this for 2+ years. Responsible of Growth and competency of the Engineering Team.
Great Project Management : Estimation, Planning, Prioritizing, Unblocking, Pushing back, Stretching to meet promises are all daily activities that the Development Manager should be super adept at. Should have done this for 2+ years
Must have worked in a small setup (either a startup or a small & reasonably independent team / dev center )
Strong Problem Solving, Design and Architecture skills. Ability to work against stringent SLA requirements and lead development of highly performing systems against metrics like scale, latencies and resource utilization.
Technical Breadth -- Exposure to a wide variety of problem spaces, technologies would allow Development Managers to understand and apply appropriate solutions.
Tech savvy-ness around exploring different technology stacks that could be useful to the organization, being in touch with technological advancements and the drive to evaluate and recommend solutions. Should be able to weigh alternative solutions and make recommendations for varying scenarios.
Deep Understanding of Java/J2EE technologies & frameworks, Data Persistence mechanisms, Data Security, Relational databases, SQL, NoSQL stores, and other high performance persistence software
Personal Traits:
Strong comprehension, analytical and problem solving skills
Good People Networking skill and Courageous in Collaboration and Opinion
Excellent Communication skills (written & verbal) are mandatory
Job roles and Responsibilities:
Technical Mentoring: The Engineering Manager is the technical leader for the team, participating in code reviews, design reviews, architecture discussions. Being responsible for meeting the Scaling, Performance, Security & Quality requirements for the products/components/libraries/frameworks developed by the team. Setting up best practices to help the team achieve the above and constantly thinking about improving the technology in use are the other responsibilities. It is important for developers to be able to look up to their manager as a technical mentor.
Roadmap/Future Vision: The Product Engineering team needs to maintain a longer term vision and pro-actively think of improvements to the architecture of the product through identifying components that are generic and configurable. The team needs to be mentored to have the right mix of functional and technical knowledge. Engineering Manager for the team is expected to play an important role to build the vision and charter the roadmap for the team through collaboration and feedback from the Product Management and rest of the teams/stakeholders.
Delivery Management: Collaborate with other technology teams in MetricStream and ensure a streamlined adoption of the products, where it adds value. Be a stakeholder in contributing to the roadmap of other teams in terms of functional/architectural/design improvements to the systems.
People Management: Understanding team members very well -- their strengths, areas of development and aspirations and using this understanding to do a great job of mentoring them and managing their careers including driving the performance appraisals for the team. Development Managers are also responsible for building an open culture within the team, and aid in increasing the level of communication and co-ordination within the team as well as with other teams.

team to hire the best talent for the team and for other teams at MetricStream.
