The responsibilities of the role include the following:
Design brief development:
Lead/assist in initial meeting with client/client team in order to establish facility design criteria
Liaise with equipment specialists and process engineers to develop schedule of functional areas
Advise on the relationships and process flow between functional areas
Advise on typical costs of various types of process facilities and provide input into budget estimates
Work with process disciplines to establish preliminary site and facility layout options
Develop conceptual layouts to incorporate all functional requirements
Assist client team in assessing and selecting options for further development.
Produce personnel, material and equipment flow diagrams for the proposed layouts
Develop co-ordinated conceptual design information in conjunction with all related disciplines
Participate in preliminary design reviews
Provide input to project estimate.
Front end Design
Develop the concept design in conjunction with the client team and all related disciplines
Ensure all aspects functional requirements are incorporated into the design and participate in design reviews
Provide input to project estimate. Obtain budget prices for proprietary building elements as necessary
Produce or supervise the production of detailed design drawings and documentation for tendering and construction
Liaise with all disciplines to ensure co-ordination of the design
Advise client on the requirement for planning and building regulations approval together with associated fees and timescales
Liaise with Local Authority Planning Departments on behalf of client with regard to potential planning applications.
Make client aware of key planning constraints at an early stage during project
Prepare and submit applications for outline and full planning permission
Carry out design risk assessments and provide documentation to the Planning Supervisor as required by CDM regulations
Assist in the selection and pre-qualification of sub-contractors
Assist in the preparation of tender documentation
Assist in the analysis of sub-contractors tenders
Advise on the sub-division of the project into suitable work packages
Respond to technical queries from the construction management team as required Management
Liaise with project manager to agree deliverables timescales and man-hours for all project stages
Supervise work at all project stages to agreed manhour budgets and programmes
Monitor and report on progress of work to ensure achievement of deadlines within man-hour allocations
Checking and approval of design documentation prior issue
Recognizeand inform project manager of scope changes at all project stages. Prepare change control documentation as required
Provide assistance for the preparation of proposals and presentations
Identify the level of resources required complete work within the agreed timescale and budget
The ideal candidate will have extensive post qualification experience and a previous track record of projects in the nuclear, defence, specialist industrial or healthcare sectors.
