The System Designer defines the design of a subsystem in such a way that future product options and features can be realized without or minimizing negative effects for the earlier subsystems.

Is responsible for the requirements of a particular (sub) system or system function
Elicits and analyses the stakeholder requirements
Prepares proposals and alternatives, guiding towards optimum balance of short- & long-term requirements, for discussion with major stakeholders.
Specifies the requirements of a project, which serves as contract for the projects WHAT will be delivered, with focus on good-is-good-enough
Manages technical and safety risks for the project/subsystem in question
Creates the product architecture in a modular, easy to maintain and extendible components and modules, and guards and manages the architecture
Defines the overall design for a subsystem in a project
Defines the design to the level that it can be realized by mono-disciplinary project teams, and in line with the (sub) system architecture.
Detects common architectural and functional components in order to enable reuse and maintainability
Implements the constraints that originate from legacy and relevant ilities
Discusses, deploys and attunes solutions with the project stakeholders
Determines and manages the external and internal interfaces framework in cooperation with all interface stakeholders
Monitors and manages that the design is understood and used / implemented correctly by the project team
Is the technical lead with respect to requirements, design, realization and verification for the subsystem
Advises on realization, planning and budgets
Obtain and maintains internal and external network for knowledge build-up.
Bachelor/Masters Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical, SW, Electronics
10to 14 years experience
Has an in depth understanding of a particular product or complex product functions.
Has an in depth understanding of the involved key technologies
Specifies and creates the overall design for important products or complex product functions
Several years of experience as hw/sw designer of the relevant application area.
Experienced in technical leadership.
In-dept understanding of design methods
In-dept understanding of the application area.
Understanding of the related business disciplines, like application, manufacturing, supply chain, etc.
Knows how to engage technical people in coming to the proposed solution
Lateral thinker with helicopter view, capable of finding appropriate solutions covering the implications in other disciplines
