Job Description


Consultants provide support to multiple account teams and efficiently service each of these accounts simultaneously. They study the clients business and industry and seek out knowledge of the media that cover the clients products and services. Consultants are able to independently manage the implementation of core public relations program assignments, including research, writing/editing, special events, media relations, budgeting and account administration processes. They play an active role in setting the standard for quality control, creativity and excellence in execution within the agency.

Primary Responsibilities

Performance leadership
Develop comprehensive tactical plans that incorporate traditional and social media elements. Contribute to the larger plan development process, as needed
Understand clients top-tier traditional and social media and be able to edit media lists appropriately
Identify and build relationships with key trade reporters, business reporters, and bloggers. Proactively consume traditional and social media outlets that are relevant to client business
Secure national, local and social media placements, actively pitch media about client news by conducting media outreach, research and follow up
Monitor traditional and social media outlets for coverage of client news, competitor and industry developments; analyse coverage results and flag for appropriate team members
Able to independently implement traditional and social media campaigns, and blogger outreach
Draft media relations materials that are aligned with program strategy set by the account leadership, with an attention to detail and minimal factual error.
Begin to manage the development of materials, special event logistics and other relevant programming; draft event flow documents, pitch letters, abstracts, profiles, press kit materials and releases
Demonstrate strong oral and written communications skills
Proactively prepare/review client updates, conference call or client meeting report recaps; provide ready versions to supervisors for distribution to clients
Proof and edit client-related documents, as needed
Participate in client meetings and presentations, as needed
Manage special event logistics up to and including the execution of event
Research industry or program-relevant topics aligned to clients objectives efficiently
Research spokesperson and speakers bureau candidates
Stay abreast of the latest trends in digital communications
Develop and maintain systems for keeping accurate account of client supplies and resources

Adhere to the IPG Code of Conduct in all business interactions, and conduct self in a manner that reflects the agency's vision and values at all times, in all forums
Be able to balance workload between accounts independently; proactively flag issues and communicate with supervisors for resolution
Provide updates on projects and responsibilities to ensure all work is accurate and completed within established deadlines
Demonstrate understanding of how social media channels can be activated in client programs; implement initiatives as appropriate to further clients communications objectives
Participate in colleague feedback review process by providing specific constructive input on experiences with supervisors or colleagues, as relevant for each account team
Attend agency staff meetings and group meetings, as well as appropriate L&D sessions
Own and drive performance management process along with supervisor Market Leadership
Support agency leadership opportunities and assist with new business, as needed
Demonstrate fundamental understanding and ability to communicate about agency internally and externally
Actively participate and contribute to agency brainstorms as needed

Operational Leadership

Track/enter time with precision on a day-to-day basis and submit expense reports in a timely manner
Understand and facilitate purchase order and other administrative processes
Initiate and track vendor billing accurately
Perform other administrative tasks, as assigned

Strategic Leadership

Solid team player. Work effectively with team members in-market and across the network; foster solid inter-company relations as relevant
Assist client teams with tactical issues
Identify opportunities for agency/team learning and development tools; make suggestions to expand agency knowledge and understanding as needed
