This is a new role due to the continued growth in Mott MacDonald's national and international multi-disciplinary project capability.
Reporting to the Contracts Manager in Metros and Civils (MNC), the role will provide technical support and guidance on contracts and commercial management for a range of civil engineering disciplines across transportation and infrastructure.
This covers a wide and varied range of UK and worldwide engineering design projects.
Projects include some of the largest and highest profile in the world including HS2, Crossrail, DOHA Metro, Northern Line Extension to name a few. We support clients including private and public sector as well as a large portfolio of Design & Build (D&B) contractors.
Provide general contractual / commercial advice to Project Engineers / Managers and prepare correspondence to Contractors on contractual / commercial matters.
Act as a liaison between Project delivery teams and other Departments such as Finance, Legal, Contracts and accounts.
Provide support to management staff as well as the project delivery teams in dealing with contractual and financial aspects throughout the project lifecycle from inception to close out.
Input to commercial and contractual strategy in dealing with risk and opportunity.
Demonstrate and promote 'best practice' together with mentoring and training of engineering staff operating in the commercial field.
Review and respond to contractual correspondence from clients and sub-consultants.
Prepare claims / variations to contracts as well as respond to clients and sub-consultants.
Negotiate contractual matters with clients and sub-consultants.
Prepare sub-contract enquiries, requests for proposals, bid evaluations and draft sub-contracts.
You are likely to come from one of the following backgrounds:
i) Engineering (ideally civil) and moved into, and excelled at, Project Management
ii) Quantity Surveying (QS) or Law graduate then worked in commercial management
You need to be able to demonstrate:
Experience in contract and commercial management in civil engineering or transportation.
Ideally experience of the D&B process from the Contractors side.
Strong ethical principles.
Excellent report writing skills and a high level of numerate literacy.
Able to prioritize and work under pressure.
Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues.
Excellent presentation and communication skills with an ability to negotiate in potentially challenging circumstances.
Ability to identify and resolve key issues and blocks to progress or agreement.
Proactive and self-motivated.

adding value to projects
