With India’s Republic Day just behind us, it’s a good reminder for all of us of how blessed we are to live in a country with free will and democracy. However, does this translate as easily into our jobs?
Let’s take a look at ways you can exercise your right to choice each day with responsibility and assertive thought.
1. Make Your Own Choices (The focus here is on creating Independent Thought)
Whether you work in an organization or run your own business, this journey is yours and only yours to make the most of. Everyone else is on their own journey. Ensure your thoughts serve the purpose of your work and align with your passions and intentions. Trust yourself fully.
2. Communicate Confidently & Openly (Verbalizing your thoughts)
It’s important to state your point of view, but not just with the intention to always win or dominate the conversation. Understanding and being able to relate is a gift which exhibits confidence and surety within oneself, eliminating judgement and biases.
3. Act on Your Beliefs and Values (Acting… on the strength and foundation behind your Choices)
Ensure your beliefs and values serve who you are today. Then, move forward in a way where your actions enhance the existing work culture, create positive impact within people and inspire others to be more like you.
4. Don’t Sway with the Crowd (Not getting distracted, staying true to yourself)
Ensure decisions mean something to you without letting others influence you to go against your intuitive flow. Use your judgement at all times and gather facts, rather than subjective opinions.
5. Carve Your Own Path Forward (Moving forward independently, irrespective of external forces)
Proactively assess your skills, hire a coach, set goals and achievement timelines to create your individual professional path. It doesn’t matter where you stand in measure with others. The only thing that matters is how you fare against your own yesterday.
6. Spreading Your Wings and Fly (Taking the plunge)
Take calculated risks, embrace change and learn to overcome adversity with each hurdle, problem or outcome that doesn’t go your way. Move past it and learn how to manage it better for next time so you don’t get stuck in a web of frustration. Each chance in business is a new one, thus every outcome has the opportunity to be different.
Our professional lives give us many opportunities each day to share our unique personalities and spirits with others as well. We all are different and that’s what makes these interactions so interesting and challenging. Embrace them with full gusto and respect each individual as free and independent. After all, showing up at work everyday is also a Choice!
